Faction Selection Guide

10 min read

Choosing Your First Faction

Your faction determines your entire playstyle — unit roster, abilities, and leader bonuses. This is not a cosmetic choice. Each of the 8 factions plays fundamentally differently.

  • Beginners: Iron Legion (balanced), Raven Host (aggressive but strong)
  • Intermediate: Taelindor Forest (fast but fragile), Sanguine Court (attrition)
  • Advanced: Sakura Dynasty (mono-faction purity), Drakosaur Brood (monster reliance)
  • Defensive players: Deepstone Hold (slow, unbreakable)
  • Aggressive players: Gruntkin (cheap swarms + monsters)

Faction Playstyle Matrix

Iron Legion excels at shieldwall + archer formations. Gruntkin overwhelms with numbers and artillery. Raven Host gets stronger as units die. Taelindor Forest hits hard and fast with cavalry and archers.

Sanguine Court never routs and gains free units after every battle. Sakura Dynasty rewards using only Sakura units with massive stat buffs. Deepstone Hold is immovable with gunpowder. Drakosaur Brood surrounds enemies for bonus damage.

Leader Selection

Each faction has two leaders. You start with Leader 1 and unlock Leader 2 after completing a campaign with Leader 1. For your first run, always pick Leader 1 — they are designed to be more straightforward.

Leader 2 often enables specialized strategies. Lord Draven Bloodreaver (Sanguine Court) is one of the strongest leaders in the game, but requires completing a full Morvayne run first.
